The most important element of theatre, as well as the most difficult to describe. Provoking the greatest excitement, and at the same time resistant to objective assessment. Shaped by school, manifestos and methods, yet escaping any theories. An actor.

The panel accompanying the Festival of Small Theatre Forms KONTRAPUNKT attended by both theorists and practitioners from Poland and Germany, will be specifically dedicated to an actor. It will be an attempt of multi-sided analysis of the phenomenon of acting, an attempt of redefining the concept, an attempt of marking its limits in a changing aesthetic and social context. The clash of experts from both sides of the border will allow a detailed analysis of differences and similarities between Polish and German actors. The experts from both sides of the border invited to participate in the panel represent both theoretical and practical approach to acting. They are distinguished representatives of the Polish and German theatrical and scholar community:

  • Friederike Felbeck – theatre critic and scholar, director
  • Ole Georg Graf – playwright of Staatsschauspiel in Dresden
  • Beata Guczalska – theatre critic, dean of Theatre Academy in Krakow
  • Thomas Irmer – theatre critic, lecturer, author of documentary films
  • Dorota Jarząbek-Wasyl – theatre critic, lecturer at the Jagiellonian University, Krakow
  • Tadeusz Kornaś – theatre critic, lecturer at the Jagiellonian University, Krakow
  • Florian Malzacher – theatre critic, curator, director of the Impulse theatre festival
  • Piotr Olkusz – theatre critic, translator, editor of “Dialog” monthly magazine, lecturer of the Lodz University
  • Katharina Schmitt – playwright, director

Panel discussion presented within the frames of the project “Bridges of Theatre – Bridges of Culture. On the mutual influence of Polish and German theatre.”
