The Art of Protest

Teatr Współczesny w Szczecinie

Duration

90 minutes
Grupa aktorów na scenie. Na pierwszym planie młody mężczyzna ubrany na kolorowo siedzi obejmując się za uda. What do they want? What did Van Gogh's Sunflowers do to them? If it snowed in winter, is there really anything to be afraid of? In a world where those with power and wealth are trusted more, voices of dissent are easily dismissed as exaggerated. Sometimes even as a threat.

All it takes is one article or photo for online commentators to send environmental activists to the metaphorical Mars, forgetting that there is no planet B.

The Art of Protest is a play about climate activism – a topic that provokes extreme reactions. Few people support the actions of activists without any reservations. We may agree on the need to stop climate catastrophe, but when it comes to the methods... that's a completely different matter.

Should protest be ‘civilised’?
‘Non-invasive’?
‘Acceptable to everyone’?
Or perhaps it would be better if there were no protests at all?

THE PERFORMANCE CONTAINS VULGAR LANGUAGE. LOUD MUSIC, STROBE LIGHTS AND SMOKE MACHINES ARE USED. IT CONTAINS A SCENE OF NUDITY.

The performance is being created in collaboration with an expert group of climate activists, consisting of Cecyl, Jula, Lucy, Mar, Miśka, Rado and Tymek
