There are works that, once read, seen or heard, will never be forgotten. They carry such a great emotional charge that even the memory takes us to the place where we first encountered it. Images and scenes appear before our eyes, we hear sounds and see words. Our premiere is undoubtedly based on such a memory. Because among the generation of today's 40-year-olds, it is hard to find a person who has not experienced the story taking place in Fantasia together with the heroes.
"The Neverending Story", as a best-selling novel by the German author of children's and youth literature, Michael Ende, has many admirers around the world. It is similar with Wolfgang Petersen's film, which became a huge blockbuster upon its premiere in 1984. Our memories go back to the release of the song Limahl promoting the film and its music video. Many of us still have a number of snapshots from the film in our minds: the magical book stolen by Bastian from a second-hand bookstore, the mysterious sign of a dragon swallowing its own tail, Atreju rushing across the prairie, Artax drowning in the Swamps of Sorrow, Atreju's beloved horse, the sad childish face of the Empress and , of course, Falkor, the good dragon with the kindest eyes in the world.
The theatrical version of "The Neverending Story" performed at our Theater will be - according to the original - an emotional story about an 11-year-old boy who, completely by accident, finds a mysterious book in a second-hand bookstore. Thanks to it, he moves to the world of fantasy and, together with the characters, experiences the events described in the pages of the book. Strangely enough, the fate of Bastian - the real hero and the fate of Atreju - the hero of the book, are interconnected. In the literary Fantasia Bastian finds a representation of his inner world. It is a world full of fear and sadness, caused by the state of mourning mom's death. "The Neverending Story" becomes a universal story about escaping into the world of fantasy, away from pain, about trying to build a life in a parallel space in order to forget or suppress the emotions that torment a person.
