Dust has invaded space, and the universe is nothing more than rubble. What is left of life in the midst of chaos? This puppet performance takes us back to the fragility of the world, but it also evokes the power of reincarnation of the living. Through a poetic metaphor, Poussière resonates in us the news of a crumbling environment, our fears and our hopes of seeing it rebuilt.
Life begins with a birth, Poussière begins under the empire of destruction: the reign of ashes. Dust has invaded space, and the universe is nothing more than rubble. The earth shakes and a thick white smoke rises from the ground, engulfing everything. Wherever the smoke suffocates, wherever the dust settles, the presence of a mysterious living being persists. A fragmented creature rises from the rubble, as a resurgence of the past. Life persists.
Poussière is born from an emotion felt by discovering the casts of the victims in the ruins of Pompeii: bodies eternally frozen in a struggle for survival. This puppet performance reminds us of the fragility of the world, but it also evokes the power of reincarnation of the living.Poussière explores our capacity to rebuild ourselves after a disaster, rising from the ashes, connecting the pieces of the past. This piece is an invitation to listen to the living and our surroundings. It is through the knowledge of our past and through the relationships that we weave between the living and non-living that renewal becomes a possible future.
Without the need for words, Sophie Mayeux explores the symbolism of animated matter: ashes, smoke, dust. Disappearance, traces, memories. The public is invited to this sensitive journey in a space inhabited by multiple life forms, past and present, human, vegetal and ghostly. Poussière invokes images of a crumbling environment, our fears and our hopes of seeing it rebuilt.
